COBRA continuation
Keeps the employer plan when federal COBRA applies. The plan may charge up to 102% of the total group premium for standard continuation, though an employer may subsidize part under a severance agreement.

Review available options in a 15-minute callCOBRA: each qualified beneficiary generally gets at least 60 days to elect, measured from the later of the date coverage would be lost or the date the election notice is provided. Your notice and plan terms control.
Marketplace: loss of qualifying job-based coverage can create a separate Special Enrollment Period, generally beginning 60 days before the loss and continuing 60 days after it. Verify the dates, documents, displayed coverage start date, and first-premium deadline through HealthCare.gov.
Eligibility is personal. These are categories to investigate—not a promise that every option is available or suitable.

Individual major-medical plans with ACA protections. Savings depend on current rules and expected annual household income—not simply the income earned after the job ended.
A spouse's or other job-based plan may allow special enrollment after loss of other coverage. Ask the plan promptly about its notice period and effective date.
Rules vary by state and household member. Florida has not adopted the ACA adult Medicaid expansion, so some adults may face a coverage gap while children or other household members qualify.
ACA-compliant individual coverage may also be sold outside HealthCare.gov, but premium tax credits are generally available only through the Marketplace.
Short-term limited-duration insurance is not ACA-compliant and may exclude benefits or pre-existing conditions, use medical underwriting, and impose coverage limits. It is not a default substitute for major-medical coverage.
COBRA cost comes from the actual employer plan. Marketplace pricing varies by age, ZIP code, household, annual income, plan year, and plan selection. Use the COBRA cost calculator only as an estimate and verify every figure with the responsible plan or issuer.
Does your notice show an employer subsidy? Use the COBRA election notice guide and subsidy-expiration calculator to compare the temporary bill with the possible post-subsidy cost.
